We are proud to provide a wealth of information and communicate with people like you, who are concerned about the well-being of military families. You can visit almost all of the pages on this site and access the majority of information anonymously. If you want to take advantage of some of our optional programs accessed through MilitaryFamily.org, we will request information that allows us to identify you.
What information do we collect?
When you are interacting with us online (ordering, donating, registering, subscribing to a newsletter, taking a survey, filling out an application, using our mobile app, interacting on a social media page) you may be asked for personal information such as: your name, email address, mailing address, age, phone number, or military service related information. All of this information helps us better meet the needs of military families, serve our users, and improve our programs. You have choices about how we use this information and you may always browse our site anonymously.
How do we use your information?
The information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:
Do you share information about your donors?
We will not sell, trade or share a donor's personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations unless you, the donor, have given us specific permission to do so. Donors who are also members of our Association will receive information about your membership and your copy of our newsletter sent six times a year. We will also maintain your subscription to any of our other publications or notices you elect to receive.
How do I manage my subscriptions?
You can unsubscribe from receiving email messages from us. Simply follow the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of any of our emails or send a note to Families@MilitaryFamily.org with unsubscribe in the subject line. You may also log in to our website and adjust your preferences and subscription options.
Visitors to our site who apply to participate in a program or award will automatically be opted-in to receive email messages in order to administer the program and send information on future programs, news, and offers. You may opt-out after you receive your confirmation message but we will not be responsible for any undeliverable notifications or updates about possible awards or acceptance.
How do we protect your information?
We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of any personal information you share. Our information is maintained on a secure server. All supplied sensitive/credit information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted in our payment gateway provider’s database. The information is only accessible by those authorized with access rights to such systems and required to keep the information confidential.
We do not have access to your private information (credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) after a financial transaction is complete.
Do we disclose any information to outside parties?
We do not sell or rent member information to telemarketers, mailing list brokers, or any other companies that are not offering National Military Family Association-endorsed services or benefits. If you do not want to receive this information, you can opt-out. We are only interested in offering you services or programs that match your interests and needs.
We may sometimes share non-identifiable visitor information such as aggregate demographics, online usage patterns, or community statistics with the media, government, sponsors, or other third parties. Examples can include general web statistics like the number of visitors who are interested in a certain topic to information as specific as the number of military spouses who applied for a scholarship. This information WILL NOT allow anyone access to individual information or names.
Like most charities, we use website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, understanding our site visitors, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential.
On rare occasions, we may have to release your information to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect others or our rights, property, or safety. We reserve the right to contact the appropriate authorities at our discretion when visitor’s activities appear to be illegal or inconsistent with our policies.
Do the privacy protections exist in the Association’s Online Community?
It is important to understand that the information you submit in message boards, blogs, chat rooms, and user groups is publicly displayed. People and organizations not related to the National Military Family Association will see your messages and may try to contact you. As a result, you should be careful about the information that you publish online. Because these unrelated parties will also see your "User Name" on any postings that you make in online discussions, you may want to use your first name only, or use an assumed name.
Online Policy Only
Third party links or offers
Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include an offer from or link to third party products or services on our website or other online communication platforms. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.
Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance
We are in compliance with the requirements of COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act). We do not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. Our website, products and services are all directed to people who are at least 13+ years old.
